Firesafe: Ignite Awareness, Extinquish Fires!
The Hope Fire Department is expanding its FireSafe: Ignite Awareness, Extinguish Fires campaign. As part of this initiative, firefighters will be going door-to-door in select neighbourhoods throughout the community, offering free fire safety assessments and, when needed, a complimentary 10-year lithium-ion battery smoke alarm.
During these visits, firefighters will share essential fire safety tips, check the placement and condition of existing smoke alarms, and install new smoke alarms if necessary. Please note: this program does not include replacement of hard-wired smoke alarms.
This program is designed to help households that either lack smoke alarms or have smoke alarms that are expired or not working. The program is open to single-family dwellings, including mobile homes. Apartment complexes are excluded, as fire safety in those buildings is managed by property owners.
Residents participating in the program must allow firefighters into their homes and sign a waiver.
This campaign is a joint effort between the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit, part of the BC Centre for Disease Control, and the Office of the Fire Commissioner under the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.
Hope residents are encouraged to take advantage of this important safety program. The goal of the FireSafe: Ignite Awareness, Extinguish Fires campaign is simple: a working smoke alarm in every home across BC.
