Flood Planning in the District of Hope
District of Hope - With all that's in the news about flooding this year on the Fraser River, the District of Hope reminds all residents to be prepared. With the higher than normal snowpack, the Fraser River could easily top its banks this year. Those living in areas likely to see high water include Wardle Street, Landstrom Road, Tom Berry Road, Bristol Island and Water Avenue however "if this event is a big as it could be, then more areas will be hit" says Barry Gannon, Municipal Emergency Coordinator.
To date, the District of Hope has set up the Emergency Operations Centre and remains at a level one activation or monitoring stage. If the threat increases and the need to evacuate arises, residents at risk will be notified and asked to report to the emergency reception centre and register even if you have made arrangements for a place to stay on higher ground.
Unfortunately no one can predict exactly how high the river will rise that's why the message is simple: BE PREPARED. Prepare to evacuate, even if you don't live in an area prone to flooding. Check out the information in the attached or go to the PEP website for more information.
